Frequently Asked Questions
How It Works & Science
What is red light therapy?
Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, is a non-invasive approach that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support the body’s natural cellular processes.
How does red light therapy work?
The light is absorbed by chromophores within the mitochondria of cells. This interaction may help support cellular energy production (ATP) and other natural biological functions.
What is the difference between red light and near-infrared light?
Red light (typically 630–660 nm) is visible and primarily interacts with the outer layers of the skin. Near-infrared light (typically 830–850 nm) is invisible and penetrates more deeply into tissue, making it suitable for broader applications.
Red light vs blue light therapy: what’s the difference?
Blue light on this mask is 450 nm. It has been studied for its interaction with porphyrins associated with acne-causing bacteria. Red light is 630 nm, yellow light is 580 nm, and near-infrared is 830 nm.
What wavelengths are used in your devices?
This mask uses 450 nm blue, 580 nm yellow, 630 nm red, and 830 nm near-infrared light.
Choosing a Device
Are your devices FDA-cleared?
Yes. This mask is an FDA-cleared Class II medical device.
FDA 510(k) number: K261407. You can check this at the following link: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpmn/pmn.cfm.
Results & Benefits
Does red light therapy really work?
A growing body of research suggests that consistent use of red and near-infrared light may support skin appearance, comfort, and recovery. Results vary depending on individual factors, device specifications, and usage consistency.
How long does it take to see results?
Many users begin to notice improvements in skin appearance or comfort within 4 to 8 weeks of regular use. Continued consistent use over 8–12 weeks often yields more noticeable results.
What benefits can I expect for skin?
Users frequently report improvements in overall skin appearance, including texture, tone, and radiance, when using red light therapy as part of a consistent routine.
Can it help the look of blemishes or wrinkles?
Blue light is studied for acne-associated bacteria. Red and near-infrared light are used for the look of fine lines and firmness. This is a face mask, so it is not used for muscle recovery.
Can I overdo red light therapy?
Yes. More is not always better. Using the mask for longer sessions, or more often than recommended may increase the chance of skin irritation, redness, discomfort, or eye strain.
Device Safety
Is LED / red light therapy safe for home use?
Yes. When used according to the provided instructions, LED red light therapy is generally considered safe for home use. Our devices emit non-UV light in specific therapeutic wavelengths and are designed for regular consumer use.
Are there any side effects?
Most people tolerate red light therapy well when used properly. Possible temporary side effects may include mild warmth, temporary redness, dryness, eye discomfort, or skin sensitivity.
Using a device too close, for too long, or more frequently than instructed may increase the risk of irritation. High levels of red light exposure may cause redness, swelling, or blistering.
If you have persistent irritation, a rash, visual changes, pain, or any concerning reaction, stop use and speak with a qualified healthcare professional.
Do I need to wear eye protection?
Attach the separate, replaceable eye shield before each session, and do not look directly at the LEDs. People with eye conditions, vision concerns, or light sensitivity should consult an eye-care professional before use.
Who should not use red light therapy?
Red light therapy may not be appropriate for everyone. Speak with a qualified healthcare professional before use if you:
- Have a photosensitivity condition, such as lupus or porphyria
- Take medication that may increase light sensitivity
- Have an active skin infection, unexplained skin lesion, or a history of skin cancer
- Have an eye condition or vision-related concern
- Have reduced sensation in the treatment area
- Have uncontrolled epilepsy or a condition affected by flashing light
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive
- Have any medical condition that makes you unsure whether light therapy is appropriate
This list is not complete and does not replace medical advice. If you are uncertain, consult your physician, dermatologist, pharmacist, or eye-care provider before use.
Can pregnant women use it?
While light therapy is generally considered safe, our device has not been specifically studied for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. We recommend consulting with your doctor before use.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Most people with sensitive skin tolerate LED light therapy well. We suggest starting with shorter sessions and monitoring your skin’s response. Discontinue use if irritation occurs and consult a dermatologist if needed.
Usage & Routine
How often should I use the device?
Use it 3–5 times a week. Each session is 10, 20, or 30 minutes, as set on the controller. Stop if your skin feels irritated.
How long should each session last?
This mask has 10-, 20-, and 30-minute timers. Follow the manual for your mode. It sits on the face, so there is no distance to set.
Can I use it every day?
Follow the user manual. We recommend 3–5 sessions a week, within the session length on the controller. If your skin feels irritated, take a break.
What is the best time of day to use it?
There is no universal “best” time. The best time is the one that helps you stay consistent.
- Morning: Easy to pair with a fresh skincare routine before sunscreen
- Evening: Convenient after cleansing away makeup and sunscreen
- After exercise: Popular for recovery-focused wellness routines
- During downtime: Easy to pair with reading, stretching, podcasts, or TV
Choose a routine that is practical for your lifestyle and follow the device instructions.
Can I use it with skincare products?
Yes. Clean, dry skin is ideal for treatment. Most skincare products can be applied after your session. Avoid using photosensitizing ingredients immediately before treatment.
How do I clean the device?
Wipe the mask with a soft, damp cloth after each use. For deeper cleaning, use a gentle alcohol-free wipe. Do not submerge the device in water or use harsh chemicals. The food-grade silicone is easy to keep clean and hygienic.
